<image:title>About Me - Welcome! I’m Dr. Lola Martin, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (CA PSY#32925). While I have experience working with a broad range of mental health concerns, I specialize in eating disorders, trauma recovery, and psychological assessment. My work integrates compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based care to help clients better understand themselves and move toward lasting change. My Background I earned my masters’ and doctoral degrees in psychology in the U.S. and Canada, and completed both my pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training at UCLA. I remained at UCLA for many years as a staff psychologist, where I worked on several interdisciplinary teams — including the Eating Disorders Team, Trauma Consultation Team, and ADHD Clinic — and provided training to staff and graduate students in evidence-based treatment for eating disorders.. My early clinical work focused on the intersections of trauma and disordered eating. I’ve worked extensively with survivors of sexual assault and provided eating disorder treatment across all levels of care — from inpatient and partial hospitalization to outpatient therapy. Over time, I’ve seen how trauma, anxiety, and disordered eating often overlap, and my background allows me to support clients navigating these complex experiences. Assessment Work Alongside therapy, I conduct ADHD assessments for adolescents and adults seeking thoughtful, comprehensive evaluations. My background at UCLA’s ADHD Clinic provided in-depth training in neuropsychological testing, diagnostic formulation, and feedback that is both clear and practical. I also complete third-party reproductive evaluations for individuals, fertility clinics, and agencies, offering balanced and timely reports tailored to clinical requirements. My Approach Colleagues and clients describe my approach as warm, collaborative, and flexible. I tailor therapy and assessment to each person’s needs — integrating evidence-based practices with a deep respect for each individual’s story, identity, and strengths.
I’m especially committed to providing inclusive care for clients whose experiences of culture, gender, sexuality, body size, or ability shape their mental health journeys.
In addition to my clinical work, I’ve taught as an adjunct professor at several Los Angeles universities, including Pepperdine University and UCLA, where I’ve helped train future mental health professionals. I remain dedicated to lifelong learning and ongoing professional growth. I believe everyone has the capacity for growth, healing, and a more fulfilling life — and that therapy can help you reconnect with that strength.</image:title>

      <image:title>Eating Disorders - Eating Disorders.</image:title>
<image:caption>You cannot tell if someone has an eating disorder by looking at them. You can have an eating disorder at any body weight, shape or size. Eating disorder behavior can sometimes mimic dieting. But in general, when preoccupation with food, body weight, dieting, and appearance get in the way of your health, or when eating behaviors disrupt your ability to function in other areas of well-being, it may signal an eating disorder.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eating Disorders</image:title>
<image:caption>Diets don’t work—not because you’re failing to follow the rules but because diets are failing you. I specialize in treating eating disorders and body image concerns. My treatment approach includes intuitive eating and health at every size (HAES). I believe that dieting, binge eating, compulsive exercise and body image issues show up for a reason. I work collaboratively with clients towards increased understanding of how your relationship with food and your body relates to the complex ecology of your life. This may include working to resolve any underlying traumas that are contributing to difficulties with body image. As well as connecting with your values, goals, and strengths to (re)build a peaceful relationship with food. Sometimes when it comes to eating and exercise disorders, it can help to work with a team, including a registered dietician and a medical doctor. I am happy to help you connect with trustworthy providers.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>Traumatic stress is an anxiety condition which develops in the aftermath of traumatic, or life-threatening event(s). Trauma can be the result of an acute, single experience or recurring, long-term exposure to emotionally invasive or life-threatening events, including childhood neglect, emotional, physical or sexual abuse, assault, chronic illness and/or community violence. For most people, trauma results from being overwhelmed by an experience and not getting the soothing or support you need to recover from it. Common traumatic stress reactions include unwanted recurring memories, emotional flashbacks, avoidance of people, places or events that remind you of the original trauma, persistent negative emotions, difficulties in relationships, constant feelings of emptiness, hopelessness, or worthlessness and experiencing physical symptoms, such as headaches or nausea, gastrointestinal distress. You may find yourself oscillating between states of high anxiety, hyper-vigilance, restlessness, hostility and depression, fatigue, disconnection or dissociation. This is normal. Effective treatment is available.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma-informed therapy is the difference between asking ‘what’s wrong with you?’ and ‘what happened to you?’ I specialize in treating PTSD, CPTSD and other forms of trauma. I use a variety of trauma-informed techniques to help you process your traumatic experience. Some involve visualizing, talking or thinking about the traumatic memory. Others focus on making meaning, integrating into your life’s story and challenging unhelpful beliefs about the trauma. Sharing the details of your trauma is your choice. While this this helpful for some survivors, it is not a required part of trauma-processing therapy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mood Disorders - Anxiety and Depression.</image:title>
<image:caption>I also treat anxiety and depression. Mood disorders are often the result of life transitions, painful experiences, difficult relationships, and negative internalized self-concept. I think about depression as a condition of being stuck in the past and anxiety as an issue of living too far in the future – either way, you may find that you are missing out on your present life. I believe good mental health practice gives us the language to feel, express and navigate a range of positive and challenging/ uncomfortable emotions. As well as the tools, insight, and bandwidth to make empowered choices about responding to adversity while thriving.</image:caption>
